Hello!
Don't you think January is the most leisurely month? Perfect for making plans, snuggling up and drinking lots of tea.
That's what I've been doing, I'm easing myself slowly into 2012.

I decided to attempt making a tea cosy, to make my tea drinking more pleasurable. I'd doodled an idea years ago, and thought I'd start there.

If I had known how long this project would take me, I may not have attempted at all!

I was off to a flying start, pattern made, fabric cut.

And then came the actual sewing bit. The bit that scared me.
My sewing machine has been sat unloved for about five years, waiting patiently for the day when it could be let loose on a piece of fabric.
After a day of YouTube video tutorials, and pulling my hair out, I'd finally cracked it.

My first foray into the world of machine embroidery.
And I absolutely loved it!
Loved it !
The sewing machine and I are now friends.

I pressed on, experimenting and making piles of fabric petals. Deciding what would go where, and in which order to place, and how was I going to join this bit to that bit? All fun.
And many, many, many, many, stressful, joyful hours later...
I am ready to reveal,
my tea cosy.
Ta-da!
Oh I'm chuffed to bits, so proud of my tea cosy am I!
I feel as though my fear of the sewing machine has at last been conquered, and I am now ready to progress onto the dizzy heights of a matching cushion. What a rock and roll lifestyle I lead!
But I know that you get it, the feeling of satisfaction and pride of making something with your own fair hands. It's addictive isn't it?
Tell me, if you saw this in a shop, would you part with your hard earned cash and buy it?I would love to know, and appreciate your honest feedback. Because I feel like making another one!

Hi, I thinks its gorgeous and I would definitely buy it. Tina x
That's gorgeous! If I were a tea-drinker I'd be tempted :-). Well done on making friends with the sewing-machine - that's still on my to-do list!
it's a beauty - i love the fabrics you used {& the sweet petals around the bottom}, i wonder if you had to line it with something to help insulate it better? i've only ever used knitted cosy's! but it looks like the sort of thing i'd love someone to buy me as a present,

WOW!! that is fab - I love it xx
January is one of my very favorite months -- for the reasons you mentioned. Your tea cosy is gorgeous!!!!!
I think it's a fabby tea-cosy and yes, I'd splurge on it. I have an electric sewing machine left to me by my Auntie who died just over 4 years ago and I've yet to go near it. You've inspired me to dig it out and finally use it!
Love and stuff XX
What a gorgeous tea cosy. I adore the fabric. For what it's worth, I'd definitely buy one in a shop.
Oh you've done an amazing job! I love the fabric you have used! x
Yes, it's lovely. I made one too. You can see it here:

Perhaps we should go into business?
So glad you had such fun.
Oh, bravo to you on this very witty, and useful cosy creation! It's that tiny spoon that really sets it apart.
Let me ask...how does your pretty white teapot like being covered up? My guess would be that the teapot is very content to be warm.
What will be your next sewing project? Keep your creative momentum going strong. xo
Oh it's lovely and I just love the edging lots! Yes I think I'd buy it!! Especially for the edging :)

oooh, I have come over all inspired!! I empathise with 'machine frustration'; thats why me and my machine have not spoken for a wee while! Must delve into the neglected stash now though and make friends!

Hi Bertie, I'm reading your blog from Italy and you're so talented! I love your works, congrats!
Best wishes, Martina.
Hey Bertie, what a fab tea cosy, love the fabric and those darling little petals, such alot of effort. It has certainly paid off...congrats on conquering your fear of the sewing machine.
i'm sure there'll be more cups of tea enjoyed because of your wonderful cosy.
Now onto the next sewing project?......

Well done! I love your tea cosy and yes, I would certainly buy it. You have inspired me to get my machine out and have a go too.
This is lovely - and I really like your fabrics! I totally empathise with your sewing machine nerves - I used to teach free-machine quilting workshops, but hadn't used my machine for ages and when I wanted to do something similar recently - I couldn't remember how to drop the feed-dogs! How embarrassing! My friends roared with laughter.
I should certainly go ahead and put your tea-cosies up for sale - and you will be such an expert after the next one or two! Good luck!
Thats a gorgeous teacosie! Worth all the waiting, pulling of hair and cursing! Glad to see you back blogging! xxx
Clever you - it is lovely. just right to accompany a lovely cup of tea and perhaps some cake??
have a good weekend

Go girl!!!
Hello I came from Korea. Brought to you good news. Come to my blog. See the video. Comments should ask to see a film. Thank you. Be happy.
Lovely, I would by it. Lindel
Yes I would buy it, its really
lovely. xx
That tea cozy is ADORABLE!!!!!! Really, really sweet - just perfect! and, yes, I would part with my money right now (especially because I have some right now. hm.) - immediately - without thinking twice - if I saw that in the store. In fact, our family owns a little shop and as this post was unfolding, I was thinking that this would be an absolute must to sell! You have a lovely - just right panache, you know.
and, I resonate with all of your words - fear of the sewing machine or just some projects are like that. The teeth grinding. The pride in something pretty that's come from my own hands and the encouragement and glow that I get from my friends in blogland. Oh, just all of it! =]
ooh did you do this just by lifting up the foot while stitching? or was it removable to do the machine embroidery.
WOW!! that is fab - I love it xx
