Yew Trees

We have had such a beautiful day here in Yorkshire. This is how the weather looked first thing this morning. I knew that once the mist had gone, it would be a cracking day. The kind of day that would be perfect for planting trees. Yes, 500 Yew trees to be exact.
We took delivery of them yesterday and have been blessed with such good weather. Don't worry you only have 445 to go.
They have been having a drink in the pond, which is filling up nicely now. We even have some frogsporn in there, despite the cloudy water.
We are planting a hedge all the way along the top of our fields to act as a barrier. The pond is such a safety concern with small children, so the sooner it is marked off the better.
Don't you just love the fact that the landscapers are using pink twine.

The area above is where we are going to plan our kitchen garden. I am so excited about that. We just need to figure out how to keep the rabbits away.
PThey are nearly all in now. They just need a good drink, and plenty more sunshine to make them feel at home x.

How lovely will your garden & pond look? Poor gardeners, 500 trees to plant.... Hope you made them lots of tea. Fascinated about the Yew tree clippings, some of our chemotherapy drugs are derived from the vinca periwinkle plants(I tell our patients too....)
Enjoy watching your plans take shape..

Wow that is a lot of trees, the pond is looking good.
Planning the kitchen garden sounds like loads of fun, I love sorting out what we are going to grow in the veg garden; my mum is having the same problem keeping the rabbits away and deer from her veg garden.
I hope you have got the sun out again today; it is a beautiful day here already.

I've heard that if rabbits have enough clover they will leave your veggie gardens alone. We have plenty of clover in our lawn and its so peaceful to watch the little bunnies munching away...I have no veggie garden so can't tell you if the clover diet works :)

Someone must be aching today!!

Sounds like a fantastic plan, you are very lucky to have all that wide open space.

A yew hedge will look beautiful. I'm so envious of your kitchen garden - how wonderful. It reminded me a little of the kitchen garden that Sarah Raven was planting up at Sissinghurst, along with the rabbits! C x

We had all our kitchen garden eaten last year! Even though we have chicken wire . . . . we now have 4 outdoor cats, which seem to do the job. Can't say I enjoy their rabbit presents!
Good luck with the rabbits,
Love,
Helen

Goodness what a task - but what a legacy too.

I grew up in a little place called Yew Tree, there was a lovley old one where we got off the bus. Happy Memories, hope the weather keeps up for you!
