So I have been Bertie Meadowing for one whole year now. Twelve months of sharing bit n bobs, somethings and nothings. I can't believe it. We all know how much fun it is don't we? What a joy it is, this little thing called blogging. And when trouble has been taken, to leave a comment and a kind word, it makes you feel as though someone has given you a great big hug. Wow, how wonderful is that?
So I picked out the juiciest, rosy apple I could find today to celebrate. I thought you would like something fresh and healthy after all the festivities. I wanted to say thank you, thank you, for always putting a huge smile on my face. To show how much you mean to me, I am offering a little give away. This inspiring book and a few other surprise treats, could be coming your way next week.
You know that Bertie is my nick name. It's not an abbreviation of my real name, and I don't know how it started, but I feel like a Bertie, it kind of suits me.
I would love to know your nick names, and the reasons behind them . So please leave me a comment and I will gladly pop you into the draw. Everyone is welcome to join in ,even if you don't blog . And if you don't have a nick name, just tell us what you would love to be called.
Good Luck, and I'll let you know the winner next Monday x.

I am Miriam. I am from Italy. I haven't a blog and I haven't a nickname, but I like to "visit" your blog!
Happy 2010,

Hi Bertie,
my name is Dawn, and I think the only nickname I've ever had that's stuck is 'Prawn', and I've had that since primary school. There aren't many people still call me that though. I can't remember any other reason for it than the fact it rhymes.
Hi Bertie,
Happy bloggy birthday!
Well I have had a nickname since I was a baby just as long as my real name in fact. Its George. (hehe Bertie and George now they sound a pair!)
It came about apparently when my mum whom I can only imagine as I was her first baby, was in that first baby fug and er nearly sat on me! Ha ha ha, my grandad and dad god bless them both, shouted at her to mind............ erm george???? Lord knows why that name as I have do have a girls name that can be shortned to a boys name but its not Georgina!
So there you go, I reckon that must the strangest way to get a nickname. Only my family call me it though, which isnt too bad, actually it can be kinda of nice. they would call me the boys shortened version of my name too but one of my brothers ended up with that one!

Hiya Bertie,
Happy one year blogging - it's gone so fast hasn't it?
Nicknames 'eh' - mmmmmmmm well I guess I haven't got one to say, that I know of that is!!
But my really close friends all call me Nins which absolutely infuriates my mum as she was convinced when she named me it couldn't be shortened!
Then again she did nickname me Lobby Lou when I was little!!
Have a fabulous year and Happy New Year, welcome to 2010 - here's to a fabulous one.
Nina xxxxxxx
Hi ya Bertie, well my DH calls me Plum or Plummy????? God knows why, it's not as it I eat a lot of plums but I suppose it could have been a lot worse. I darn't mention my nickname for him as it's a bit rude. Sue x
Well done for a year of Blogging. I am Colette but my lovely neice has alwasy called me Lettie. I love it, something special between me and her.
I have just got her to start a blog http://ashleyrhiannon.blogspot.com/ and her first sewing maching is delivered tomorrow to her halls at uni, so I am looking forward to great things. SO I love being called Lettie, but only by her xx Happy 2010
Happy first birthday!!! I have one nickname and only one of my frinds calls me it!! It's January!!!!! I call her Conifer - I'm the only one who does that too!!! Weird!!

When I was setting up my blog it said "name to be known by" so I put Lucey (instead of my real name) as its my favourite name. Mr Lucey calls me "Barb" from the Royle family!! and my sister calls me "40 watts" as I'm quite forgetfull, so you could say I have 3 nicknames....love Lucey xx
Hi Bertie, my name is Sally, and boring i know, but my nickname is Sal. I'd love to pick your brain about how you got your lovely blog up and running. If you wouldn't mind imparting some of your wisdom.
Happy Birthday and Happy New Year! And thank you always for this inspiring blog.
My nickname is Big Al, coined when I was pregnant with my second child (some years ago)and I went from quite small to a truly enormous bump; seriouslt people were asking if I was expecting twins from about 5 months onwards and did I have only days to go. Back to normal after the birth but the name stuck - lovely I know!
No nickname, but just wanted to say congrats for your 12 months of blogging.....lush photos by the way!!!! Andrea x
one whole wondeful year - congrats x
my nickname is Olive - named after my Nan and so much nicer than my real name Tracy!
sadly i am not tall and thin like Olive Oil - rather more short and round.... like an Olive :)

Hi there
Congratulations on your 1st year of blogging! I got into reading blogs only a couple of months ago & I love it - who knows, maybe one day I'll start my own!!
My name is Laura but my dad has nicknamed me Doris since I was a toddler. The reason was that I used to watch "Fame" the tv series when I was about 2 or 3 & used to love Doris apparently!!
L xx
congrats on the one year it flys by doesnt it?!
my nickname is Yelsel - for no other reason than its Lesley backwards!!! something started when I was very young! Lx
Many happy returns of the day Bertie! A year's blogging feels good doesn't it? satisfying and complete. Congratulations.
Nicknames? I have had many, from mophead (it's the hair) to monkey. My favourite has to be Mummy Pummy. My eldest loves rhyming.
Raise a glass to blogging. Cheers!
Emma

When I was teacching, the children couldn`t say my name so they would call me Mrs. Biscuit. The name has stuck! (and yes, I do like biscuits)
Congratulations on 1 year, that means I have been lurking awhile!
I love your blog (your pic of the painted stairway was a favourite)
Happy 2010

Congratulation on the 1 year anniversary!
My name is Vanessa, but my older sister could not say that when we were younger, and she could not manage sister either, so it came out as Sess or Sessy!
Sessy been shouted out in the middle of town when surrounded by your friends by your mum is very embarrising at the age of 15 though!
Vanessa x
Oh I dont believe I am typing this! Mine is 'Smutley'.... I 'apparently' guffaw like Mutley from Dastardly & Mutley, and I have a rather big soft spot for Carry On films and anything with a double entendre, hence the 'Smut-ley'....oh I'm sooo pleased I am only known as BH !!!!
Congrats on a whole years blogging - you've a great blog!!

Hi Bertie, I love your blog and visited it first of all because my little grandson's name is Bertie his baby sister's name is Florence. The old names are brilliant, and I think you have a wonderful nickname. I sometimes get called Mo, as my name is Maureen. Happy Bloggy Birthday and a Happy New Year to you.
My dear friend Pipany recommended I drop by...so here I am! Congrats on your first year. I shall enjoy having a little catch up. I've had various nicknames...string bean, beanpole, and for reasons unknown, as a child I was called Burlington Bertie from Bow!! I can't for the life of me remember why...!
Real name: Diana
Congratulations on a whole year! Your blog has been an inspiration full of beautiful yummy pics too! Here's to another fun filled year!
Nickname.... well whenI was about 3 I broke my leg so my nickname for a while (and quite a few years after) was Pegleg! Another was Duggler! a name my father gave me for some odd reason, still not sure why?
Enjoy the next blogging year!
Emx
Congratulations Bertie, I always enjoy your Blog and your wonderful pictures.
My nick-name is Star because my real name is Stella. I was named after Stella Maris, the star of the sea. Star is also my magickal name since I am a Wiccan.
Please enter me in the draw for the book.
Blessings, Star
Congrats on your year of blogging-I've never had a nickname! I can't think of one I'd like either!
Happy Blogaversary, it's been lovely to peek into your world for the past few months. I know what you mean about comments being like a hug, it's nice to know that someone out there is reading my mad musings from time to time and taking the trouble to leave a comment, and I thank you for yours.
I've never had a nickname that has stuck, my Lovely Hubby just calls me babe, I jump out of my skin if he calls me by my real name it's such a shock!!
Looking forward to another year of your Blog.
Sue xx
Happy anniversary Bertie! I've really enjoyed your posts over the year and looking forward to many more.
My husband is king of the nicknames, they change constantly and all of us have different ones at different times. Mostly I'm smallface or beautster, both of which I like; unlike nint and ernie which crop up too?!
When we were little my sister and I couldn't say each others names (Steph & Rachel) and we're still Neff & Eechie to each other today.
Happy New Year too!
Stephx
My nickname from birth has been Bunny. My parents still call me it (at the age of 43), my brothers still take the mickey out of me as do my children as a result of my brother's mickey taking...there is no hope really!!!
Happy blogging birthday!

congratulations on 1 year of blogging! i don't have a nickname but on forums i usually call myself phanetta after a great aunt of mine - no reason - i just liked the name!

Happy Blogiversary! Congratulations! I really do love your blog and I am very glad to have found it!
Everyone calls me Ali (for obvious reasons, my name is Alison!) but my best friend always writes my birthday cards to "Ali-Cat's-Poo"...though I've never thought to question why! Maybe today I will ask and find out, though depending on the answer I might regret asking..!

Happy blogiversary!
My name is Francine, but people typically call me Fransie. Well, except for my mom. When she does the firstname-middlename-lastname thing, I *know* I'm in trouble. Even though I''m 37 :p
Hi Bertie
At first congratulations on your one year anniversary!
My nickname is Ebi, my husband started calling me that after seeing an awfully stupid commercial about a man calling his wife everytime he got home frome work...needless to say it stuck with me.
I even named my blog Ebi's colorful world....
Wow, look at all those comments! No surprise Bertie as your blog is such a special place to visit. My nickname is Pipany given to me by Dave years ago, so long ago that it is now my 'real' name! Can't remember why he started calling me it, but he did and it feels like me so stuck.xx
Congratulations. I've only found your blog recently. It's so beautiful. Keep up the good work! A x
Congrats Bertie on your year of blogging! as i type this the heavens have opened with a blizzard of snow!
Well my thoughtful (not!) parents chose Clare because it couldnt be shortened!!! Thanks for that!
If I am ever fortunate enough to have a daughter of my own I would name her Alberta. More because i like the nickname Allie, but I guess bertie is a cute name too!!
ps. this the truth honest, I'm not trying to suck up!
Clare xx
Hi Bertie. Congratulations on your first year!I love your blog. I don't have a nickname (that I know of anyway!) but the best name I have ever been given was when my step-children came to live with me many years ago and after six wonderful, but scary months, started to shyly call me "Mum". My heart nearly burst!
Much love, Amanda xxx
Hi Bertie, Congratulations on one year of blogging. My nickname my dad calls me is Bracket! One holiday my sister was whinging and she was Whinge and I was Bracket. (Remember Hinge and Bracket?) Her name didn't stick but mine did and he still calls me it now.
I so love your blog! Didn't realize it's only one year old, so I guess I've been reading since about the beginning. I always look forward to new posts.
Sadly, I have no nickname. A friend called me Sprout for a while (I'm small), but it didn't stick. Now and them my name becomes Mawf or Mawfa, but it's not a real nick name.
Hi Bertie :)
For one year of secondary school my nickname was egghead (which, you could imagine, wasn't very gratefully received!) Fortunately we moved states and it was lost forever ... until now. Please don't call me egghead!!
Trudy (in Australia)
Congratulations, Bertie, on your one-year anniversary. I don't have a blog. I would like to begin one this year, however. I began to start one last year, but never got anything written for it. I think I just need to get over being nervous about what I'm going to write and just put the words down, and let it flow from there. My name is a family last name, Wylie, and my father used to call me, "Wy."
Happy blog birthday, B! I know what you mean about comments. I started my blog for my grandpa and really didn't think anyone else would stumble across it, so every comment is a joy.
I don't really have a nickname, just an abbreviation. To some, I'm Kit kat, but to most just Cat xx.
Hey Bertie, what a nice post - I love the rosie apple and the cheeky bite! Have you really been here just a year? It seems longer!
My name is Lauren, but I call myself the Curious Cat because I am a big cat lover and I am also very curious about the world and life. The name Lauren gets lots of nicknames too. Lozzle, Loz, Lozenge...all the usual suspects and my surname also gets played around with too but I won't go into that.
My mum constantly wants me to change my name to Laurel because when she first gave me my name she thought it was unusual and unheard of. It annoys her SOOO much when she hears it everywhere she goes now due to its increasing popularity. Oh well...I'm not going to change it! :) xxx

I Just love your blog! Happy birthday in Blogland!!
I do not have one of my own yet. Maybe one day...
I had an uncle hat called me Windex(window cleaner). He thought he was being funny.
My most favorite is from my husband..Wife of my youth..WOMY for short. Our girls want grandkids to call me that as well. We will see. ^_^
Hope to see lots more beautiful pictures!
Wendy
Congratulations on the 1 year Anniversary! I've been enjoying your blog for a while and love your photos.
My name is Victoria and I have two nicknames. "Vikki" is the first and shows I've know the person for at least a couple of decades as I haven't called myself that since I was at school. Can't bear it now but it feels weird when long term friends call me Victoria. The other nickname is "Vic or Vics" which I never use but everyone who meets me does, usually within hours.
My kids all have funny nicknames too from Loo-loo to Chumble (Chum at times) and Belly. Husband doesn't get one unless you count the times I use the naughty words!
Lovely blog, looking forward to reading more from you in 2010 when I may also finally get sorted and get my UK blog started up.
V xx
Hello,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU ...
My name is Joanne and I am a newbie to your blog. I have been calling in since early December and I love your words and style!!
My nickname - The palace. Given to me by my father...he never understood my appreciation of organisation, family get-togethers and a warm, flea market style cosy home. He thought I was a perfectionist!! With secondhand stuff - how strange!
He passed away last year and I smile to myself regarding his comments.....Mum told me shortly after his death, that he respected me immensly, so The Palace has fond memories.
Much love to you ....The Palace x
Hi I just found your link on Our life in the Country blog...I came over because I loved the name ;-)
Happy Blogiversary to you...
I don't really have a nickname, but I belong to a Formula 1 forum where my user name is Oxford girl, and so my boss always says How we doing Oxford girl or sometime he just calls me Oxford!!
Oh sorry, I love your little book ..as I looked at it , I thought I have seen it before, yes on a blog I read ..a lady who lives in Austria.
congrats on your first year - it goes so fast doesn't it .. as for nicknames my dad has always called me Litz and hub calls me Twitchy because I apparantly twitch a lot in my sleep ,,
Hello Bertie,
Thanks for a great blog!
Happy First Birthday!
To my friends I am known as 'J'. My hub calls me 'J-Cloth' - which he then shortens to 'Cloth' - very flattering I must say!
My Dad calls me 'Peggy'.
My brother calls me 'Pickled Feet' and my Grandpa always called me 'Tommy'!
........ no wonder one is confused by that simple question 'Name:' when it appears on documents and forms! I have to think twice before I settle on the label my mother gave me - JACQUELINE!
Hi, Bertie
I am a lurker of your blog and your links.
My nickname as a child, given to me by my parents, was Susie Q. My school friends called me "Ochie", my last name(maiden) shortened. A friend I made in university calls me "Benji". Another calls me "Chickadee" repeating it many times to get my attention when we are shopping and I have gone on my own search.
But the "nicknames" I prefer are: Mom and Baba (Ukrainian for Grandma)
Brenda England in Canada
Hello Bertie, I have been enjoying your blog for a while, but this is my first shy hello. My given name is Jackie, but everyone has always called me Jak or Jax. I've never really liked my given name as it always sounded so 50's, especially as my female cousins are called Julie, Sharon and Tracey - see what I mean. So lets do the time warp again (this was sung out loud by the way), lol!
Dear Bertie,
My name is Sue and the family likes to call me Susie Q but my nickname that my Mom used to call me is Took or Tookie. Why?? Only she knows and she is gone to the big unknown now. No one has called me Took in 20 years and I do miss it....maybe it's time to have a blog of my own called Took!
Enjoy your blog! Happy 2010, Sue
I don't really have a nickname but my mother often called me NaLiEllen. She would start with the name of the oldest girl, Nancy, then move on the next, Linda, before settling on my name, Ellen. So I was often NaLiEllen, to which I happily answered.
When I was little my nickname was 'Doobee-Doo'. Apparently I loved watching Playschool and would get excited by the 'DO BE a good bee, don't be a bad bee' bit. Hence - Doobee.
Luckily it hasn't stuck!
Hi Bertie,
I just found your blog today. My nickname is JoJo. I think because it is easy for little ones to say. I have just started my own blog a few weeks ago, and I look forward to celebrating my one year anniversary. Your pictures are refreshing.

Hi Bertie,
The nickname my hubbie has for me is Moppet. before it was either "Moppie" or "Muppet" and one day he got in a wordblurp and called me Moppet, the name got stuck. My Mom used to call me "Druif" which is Dutch for grape, but she grew over it.
I call my hubbie "Dull" Not because he is boring, but it's short for his lastname Dullemond...
Happy blogoversary!!!
Hi Bertie
I found your blog after Sew Recycled recommended it on Twitter.
How beautiful and inspiring your posts are. What really made me to seek you out though is your name - you see I am also a Bertie!
More usually known as Bert, but affectionately by my dad and a dear friend as Bertie. My Bert is short for Roberta and having a Mum who didn't want me to be known as Bobbie.
Having Bert as a name always sparks up a conversation when meeting people for the first time, with them wondering what it is short for.
There have been many derivatives of my name but Bertie is the one with a special place in my heart, hence my Twitter monkier of BertieD
I hope you get to see my comment so long after the original post was made, but from one Bertie to another I felt I should say Hi!
