Red,Red,Red!

My favourite colour is RED, I love it, I'm trying to bring it into my home here and there. Little splashes of redness dotted around, lovely and cheery.

I've wanted a clock for the kitchen for months, but they're all so expensive. So when I saw this cheap one at my DIY store I knew a lick of paint would soon sort her out.

There she is above the Aga, looking right at home.

So while I had the paint brush out I decided to paint the staircase. I first had the idea to do this back in March, it's nice to cross one more thing off my to-do list.

First my lovely red.

Then cream.

That looks so much better, it will be years before we can carpet them.

There's just one thing though, now it shows up every muddy paw and foot print. My family are always covered in mud!

Can you see the patchwork plant pot in the corner? I made that too.

I will share more about that with you on Friday. Now I need to go wipe the stairs x.

We have white painted stairs, and they do get pretty dirty even if you have a 'no shoes' rule! I clean mine with vinegar & water, and probably need to repaint them once a year.

Its pleasing to see another person choosing to strive for the sustainable lifestyle - though i dont eat pork so its chickens for me! (when we get a bigger garden).

Oof what lovely smiley stairs you have now - bright and gorgeous! My fave colour is teal. When I think about it there's just a little too much of it around the house.

I look forward to seeing how you made that lovely pot x

Red is my favorite, too! My bridesmaids even wore red for my wedding 28 years ago.
I am "re-doing" my office/crafts room and decided on a red/turquoise/pink theme. So I'm painting whatever I can with spray paint to bring in these three colors.
I love your painted staircase, but I'm not sure I'd be that daring. It sure looks beautiful, though!

A house can never have enough red... not my house anyway as it's my favourite colour.
The stairs look fantastic, and white paint has got to be better than a white carpet at least paint can be wiped down.
We inherited white carpets all upstairs and on the stairs. Two dark haired cats and a husband who I haven't yet trained to take off his shoes mean the carpets, especially the stairs are a disgrace.
I'd love to rip it up and do what you've done. It's so bright and cheery.

Hi Bertie - I Love you stairs! I'm sure running up and down them ten times a day is a lot more fun now! Good for you for painting them HAPPY! I'd like to rip the carpet we have on ours off and do the same but I'm afraid my mister would have a caniption! I'm red with envy! xo, Nan

Your strokes of red have had striking results. Every one of those photos is a winner.

Sorry to hear about the upkeep required. (Delegate it, if at all possible, so that you can keep on decorating!)

Cheers.

Those pictures are just stunning! One day I'd like to see a Bertie Meadows book of style so I could sit and look at those images whenever. And those pigs look very handsome.

my fave colour is red too -- those stairs are just lovely, I've been tempted to rip out our horrendous stair carpet for a while now but haven't got the nerve

Oh I just adore your staircase - wish hubby would let me paint ours. He's good about letting me paint most things but I don't think he will budge on this one. You have a lovely blog - thanks so much for the inspiration! Blessings, Cathy
