The lazy girls guide to hen keeping

I would like to introduce you to Rocky the Rooster, a.k.a Rocky Rock Star or The Rock as he is affectionately known.

The newest member of our family, kindly given to us by a local farmer. He really is a handsome devil, I hope you'll agree, and very popular with the ladies too. He gets them all tucked up in bed safe and sound, now that the nights are drawing in.

We need a helping hand too, as we're not always around at dusk, to safely close the hen house. So we've fitted this nifty device that does all the hard work for you. It senses when dusk and dawn is approaching, and closes or opens the door for you. Now the Sunday lie in is back on, apart from the pigs and the children of course. I wonder if someone can invent something for them!

Oh life is good x.

With a title like that I just had to pop by!!

The Rock is gorgeous, I was so tempted to get a cockeral but then I couldn't sell my eggs and that has priority unfortunately.

I also considered an automatic pop-hole, but one of my girls, Molly, seems to be able to see in the dark better than the others and she's always wandering around last, I just couldn't risk her getting shut out.... I know I'm a big softy!

What a handsome devil! Does that mean you are going to have many little chickies soon? One of our baby chooks has turned into a rooster and I think he is eyeing off his mother. Should I be concerned? I'm not sure whether to give him away or keep him. Any suggestions? Love the last shot of the pretty white hen xo
