Snuggle up

Tonight we've been snuggling up in front of our stove, keeping warm after a day outside in the fresh Autumn sunshine.

But before we could enjoy the warmth and comfort, a little bit of a sweep was needed.

After a lot of shoving and grunting, on the second attempt we finally popped the brush out of the top.

And then the soot fell and fell.

Half a bin liner full to be exact. It was strangely satisfying to see it all coming out, and to know that the chimney had been fully swept. So after a long walk, we couldn't wait to get the stove lit and try it out. Of course the best way to fully snuggle up, is with a glass of mulled cider.

I make mine with the zest and juice of one orange, 10 cloves, a cinnamon stick, a good pinch of ground nutmeg and mixed spice, with a star anise thrown in too.

Place on the stove and add a bottle of cider.

Let it bubble away for a good 10 minutes to fully infuse.

Now I am currently nursing a real stinker of a cold, so I've added a wee dram of the good stuff to my glass. Purely for medicinal purposes you understand.

I'll get back to you on just how many you need to drink, before you start to feel better.

But I think I will sleep soundly in my bed tonight x.

edited::: if you do try this recipe, make sure you save your cinnamon sticks after use. Dry them out and keep them to make your kitchen sweet, as they smell absolutely delicious.:::

We had our first fire of the season too this weekend, although we had to make do with ordinary cider, I must have a go at the mulling though sounds brilliant.

What a cosy little entry - would sure like to be a visitor round your house when the fire was lit and the cider was being sipped! It is cool to see a chimmney being sweeped - not often you come across that these days! xxx

Hi Bertie, mulled cider 'yum' our favourite and that fire looks heavenly.

Our chimney sweep tells us that it's very good luck to watch the brush pop out of the top of the chimney!

Have a lovely day,

Your post is so cozy...it makes me want to crawl into bed! Luckily it's late, so I might just do that...

I love your woodstove. Ours is this big, ugly, black thing...it doesn't even have a window. But our fireplace is small, so it won't house one like that. *sigh*

Just off to light our fire once I have finished reading! Now I wish I had some cider in the house, I have all the other ingredients!!
The auto hen house door opener thingumy is a brilliant invention, we don't have one so I don't always get the lie in although I have been known to run down in pyjamas and then crawl back to bed!
Love all your treasures too!
Take care
