In the heart of the Yorkshire Dales lies the beautiful village of Kettlewell.
They host the most wonderful scarecrow festival every year, and all the proceeds go towards the Church, village hall and the school. Trail sheets are bought for £1.oo, and they are used to hunt for clues on the scarecrows, and solve the riddle.
Kettlewell is such a special place, you feel as though you have stepped back in time, I can imagine how life used to be in this beautiful part of the world. I dream of retiring to little cottage in the village one day. So it was a delight to look around and have a nosy for our future home.
All of the community has joined in the fun and made a huge effort to make the festival a success. Even the farmers have given up the use of their tractors.
So many pretty cottages , wouldn't you just love to have a look inside?
This fella was huge standing by the riverside, he took first place in the scarecrow competition.
A teddy bears picnic on the lawn,
a closer look.
A B.B.Q outside the quaint Village Church
And a wedding taking place inside.
After a good look around exploring and searching for clues, we started to get hungry, so we popped over this little foot bridge,
to the Tea room, and sat outside to enjoy the view.
A nice hot cup for tea and a roast beef sandwich.
Then off to the local store for an ice-cream to finish it off.
Look it's G,g,g,granville.
Just see how adorable it is inside, with all the shelves of produce. I would love to pop down to the store everyday to get my groceries , with my little shopping basket. They stocked everything you could ever need, all lined up neatly on the shelves, and delicious ice-cream too.
I'm thinking of becoming a member of the Kettlewell weight loss plan.
Aghh, see what I mean everything is just so picturesque. This Hanzel and Gretyl cottage with it's candy canes and lollies won second prize.
Coco the clown in a cottage courtyard.
And the dancing May pole. Every where you look there is something to be seen.
Oh yes I could live here.
Aren't the locals such good hosts for allowing us to invade the village?
Especially for putting up with someone as nosey as me!
I really couldn't leave without saying good bye from Bertie x

Loved looking at all the scarecrows. We have a scarecrow festival near here too in a pretty village called Stotfold. It makes for a delightful day doesn't it and the villages look so attractive. I can see why you'd like to live in Kettlewell. Lots of joy in this post.
Blessings, Star
Absolutely gorgeous. I could see myself there too but a bit too far for now. Loved the post Bertie
love and stuff xx
Where to start.... OH....at the beginning.
What a fun and pleasant day outdoors. What clever scarecrows! I think that, being a scarecrow, it would be easier to lose weight - just a cinch! heehee. I love the bride and groom and had to take a double take on a couple of them - like the barbqueing couple. Thanks for taking along with you!
I just saw your potato post. I will definitely mention the bag idea to him for many reasons. Brilliant! (and YUM!)
Thanks for your comment in the sunny spot. You once encouraged me greatly in the dead of winter with your photograph of all the snow suits all over the aga. I was losing my mind - picking up boots and mittens and hats and scarves. You reminded me of what a homey sight it all was. Well, your comment just reminded me of that. =]
Love, Katy
Things like that . . . . . s what makes the british sooooh British . . . . . Why don't they have lovely things like that on the news?
wow, seems like such a lot of work went into making such a fun day..
What a fun event! Your photos are fantastic- I adore the Hanzel and Gretyl cottage!

Thank you for this introduction to Kettleville...what a beautiful place. Clearly folks living thereabouts must love it to get all involved in the Scarecrow Festival.
Your photos really gave us a great view of the fun. Best wishes on your dream of relocating there some day.
Wonderful, we too have a village full of scarecrows at the moment. They are at the bus stop, posting letters, queuing up to get in the pub, they are popping up everywhere.
They have all been made by the village childrln at their annual Art Day.
Love your Bertie too!!
Have a lovely weekend.
Sue xx
Love the "faux" wedding! I had to look close to figure that out. This is a magical place. Thanks so much for giving us a tour!
Brenda
What fantastic scarecrows and a lovely village - so traditional. Thanks for the tour!

There's something a teeny tiny bit scary about scarecrows. I can't quite look them in the eye, just in case they jump up and start running around. Kettelwell looks stunningly chocolate box-ish. What a lot of stunning colourful bedding and beautiful little stone houses. Lucky you!
Oh so charming! We have a scarecrow competition locally but we look like total amateurs compared with Kettlewell. Lovely.
beautifully bonkers village if there ever was one!!
