New arrivals

There is so much going on in our little corner of the moor, that I can't keep up. Every time I step outside I  see something new, something newly sprung or born, and it's such a joy. I love this time of year.

There are lots of baby rabbits hopping around, and eating my plants. My youngest daughter is desperate to catch one to keep as a pet, but luckily they are too quick for her.

It was a delight to see the house martins return to us after spending the winter in Africa. We are lucky to have nine nests in the eves all around the house.

They are a joy to watch, and on a morning I can hear them chattering outside my bedroom window. The only downside of course is dodging all the droppings as you go out the front door.

We've also been busy buying some young chickens from this  delightful farm in the Wharfe valley.

We went along and chose six to come and stay with us. It was so nice to see where they came from, and how well they had been raised.

I've been busy prettying  up the hen house for them.

Here are the girls, Doris, Marg, Queenie, Daisy, Minky and Coco. We have decided to let them roam free, but we may have to change that a little. As Marg was caught next door eating the strawberry plants, she's trouble that one.

They like to sunbathe on the rock, it's lovely to watch them as I'm washing up, out of the kitchen window.

They are fluffing up nicely and soon we hope will be ready to lay their first eggs.

I couldn't resist showing you this last photo that I took a few weeks ago. How cute are those piglets?

We have ordered two weaners, sadly not the ones above. They are a cross between an old black and a tamworth. They will be ready to join us in about a months time. I'm so excited !

Well we have to wait ages for a post but then suddenly a really good one! I am looking forward to showing my children your post. Definitely very countrified. We are right by the beach and all that passes us by unless we go looking for it. Thank you so much for documenting it!

Love your ladies names. Ladylike names and naughty behaviour not good though. Our neighbours are suburban people living in the countryside and have a blue fit when our hens get in their manicured garden. I'm sure the hens know and they like getting us in trouble.

Piglets - well anything small is too cute.
