Hello, hello, oh it's all been happening around here! Now that the days are a little longer and warmer, outside has been getting a lot of attention.
At last after months of planning and waiting, we have a newly planted hedge. Hawthorn, hazel, blackthorn and holly all mixed alongside each other to make one dense hedgerow.
It doesn't look much now I know, but hopefully in time this will grow into a wonderful habitat for birds and wildlife, and provide a natural border for us too.
But the most heart warming thing about our new hedge, is that it was all provided and planted by a wonderful group of volunteers. I did not lift a finger, well except to make the tea.
They didn't mess about either, after the hedge was done it was onto the trees.
They planted in and around our wildlife pond. Lots of native species including oak, my favourite, and I hope they are all still here long after I am gone.
The pond's looking rather neglected at the moment. But with a bit of hard work we hope to make this little oasis, a hive of activity in the next few months.
Just when we thought that strangers can't get any kinder by donating their time and effort, we received a donation of 12 newts to put in the pond.
It started to rain just as we released them. But I did managed to snap one of them as he swam away to hide.
We have some frog spawn too. So things are busying up a little. Some pond dipping will be taking place soon I'm sure.
This Summer will be our third year up here on the moors, and slowly we feel as though we are putting our stamp on the place, with lots of helping hands along the way.
We spotted our first sleepy Bumble bee today too.
Oh it's all good stuff.
A glorious summer would be the icing on the cake x.

What beautiful and cheery pictures! There is something wonderfully exciting about improving the land. Planting a tree and shrubs gives one such a sense of changing the world for the better. Your busyness sounds so admirable and satifying!

What great pictures, I can really see the 'stamp' you are making at your home. This is always the best, isn´t it, to change a lovely place into something very special and with your own personal touch. We have the same hedge here, but what I find very interesting is the white wrapping you have on your little trees. Is this for the safe of the trees, rabbits and co, or is it just for a good growing? Our rabbits here behave very bad always during the winter so every spring we have to exchange some trees and I would love to hear the secret of your wrapping.
Have a lovely weekend and my very best wishes,
Suzi
Great progress, I'm particularly impressed by your mixed hedge, a great place for wildlife and beautiful too. We are enjoying glorious weather so I hope it's good for you too.
I can't believe how wonderful it all looks up there. That hedge will be amazing once it's grown, doubt it will take long.
Summer - vaguely remember that one.
