Diggers at dawn

Diggers arrived at dawn today, disturbing the peace up here on the moors. Not that the sheep paid any attention. They were too busy tucking into breakfast.

They're here to start work on our stream, to dig it out and make a pond. We are hoping to have it all done for Easter, and have some ducks and geese waddling around. I'm so excited to be getting some new additions to our family. We've been planning and dreaming of this for a long time.

But in the mean time we are dealing with lots and lots of mud, and I can't keep the little ones out of it!

So we got out of the way and left them to it, taking  a trip to Grassington .
It's a beautiful village in the Yorkshire Dales that ticks all my boxes.

Cobbled streets,

cute cottages,

and fantastic shops,

with lots of Yorkshire charm thrown in for good measure. One of my favourite shops is the lovely Rustic Rabbit, I can never leave empty handed.

It's the perfect place to escape from all that mud. I came out with three bags full.

I'll share my goody bags with you soon, and let you know how the pond is progressing x.

Diggers - every little boys (& sometimes big boys)dream! How could you not go in a shop called the rustic rabbit - what a lovely name. All the best with the pond work. Did you end up making BFG ears?

Lovely pictures and beautiful cottages. Clever girl! What does the Rustic Rabbit sell? Your world is so different from mine! I feel a bit jealous of your beautiful countryside, lovely old houses etc. and now you're getting a pond and ducks and... and... oh my!
Blessings, Star

Your life seems just like mine....but in Yorkshire. Good luck with the pond we already have one, it's hiding somewhere behind five foot high weeds. This weekend we intend to find it!!

Ooh ducks and geese how cool. I bet you must pinch yourself every morning when you look outside.

Mud, glorious mud - it's a bit like snow, fun at first, but waring after awhile!!

Love to see the progress,

How exciting to be getting a pond with geese and ducks - v jealous. That's on my list. We have one farmyard goose down by the river who thinks he's a canada goose, bless his heart - even his 'honk' has a rural twang. Cat x

The very idea of a pond for ducks and geese is glorious. We don't have a pond but I really love being by the canal and able to feed the ducks each day, it really cheers up a bad day and makes a good day better. Love Grassington too - one of our favourite sunday day trips.

enjoy

Ahh Grassington. I like the fudge shop on the corner, and the other sweet shop up the road. Are they still there?
We spent a lovely week in one of the cottages off the main street. We woke one morning overlooking rooftops covered in snow. A favourite break that's remembered fondly.
